SERVICE/Guarantee
Your Ankeny Sanitation drivers are committed to serving you. They will always go the "extra mile" to "take your trash." In all cases, when service is not performed to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to contact us. The Ankeny Sanitation service guarantee insures your satisfaction! In some cases, drivers may not be able to completely service your needs. Some possible reasons include: back to top
- Trash stuck in cart: Over compaction in the cart may indicate the need for a larger container.
- Excess liquid can freeze material in the cart: Drain material before placing in cart or use plastic bags.
- Cardboard box wedged inside the cart: Breakdown boxes before placing in cart.
- Any extras such as kid's bikes and other material near the cart will be considered extra trash and will be picked and charged on the next invoice.
SNOW
Safety is our Number One priority. During heavy snow and blizzard conditions, we may be forced to suspend collections for the day. In that case, all customers will receive service one day later the rest of the week (just like a holiday week.) This policy, although seldom used, protects our drivers and the community for potentially harmful accidents and injuries. back to top
Yard Waste
Owners or occupants wishing to dispose of yard waste must place such waste in authorized bags. These are untreated paper bags acceptable to the composting station and available at Wal-Mart or any of the local grocery stores in town. We cannot accept yard waste in any plastic bags. There will be a $1.25 charge per bag. Collection will start in April. back to top
The State of Iowa has banned yard waste from being dumped in the landfills. This material must be collected separately from other solid waste. Yard waste consists of: leaves, grass, clippings, tree branches, brush and stumps.
Ankeny Sanitation has chosen Tuesday of each week to be the collection day for yard waste for residents living in Ankeny, Saylor and Polk City. The collection day for yard waste for Johnston residents is Thursday. Any customer wishing to dispose of yard waste must call our office to be placed on the collection roster. back to top
There will be a minimum trip charge of $5.00 which covers an equivalent of four authorized bags of yard waste and a dollar per bag after the first four bags. These bags must not exceed fifty pounds in weight. Branches and limbs should be bundled and in sections no longer than five feet. The extra charge for brush will be judged according to the amount disposed of. All rates will be reasonable and fair. Yard waste must be placed on your curb prior to 6:00 a.m. on the collection day. Yard waste collection is from April to November dependent on the weather.
The Metro Waste Authority has decided that Christmas trees are also considered yard waste. The city of Ankeny will make one trip throughout the entire town and dispose of any trees free of charge. The tree must be placed on the curb with no ornaments or plastic bags. The date for this pickup will be announced in the Shopper paper which is delivered every Tuesday. If you miss the pick up or live on the outskirts of town, Ankeny Sanitation will pick up trees for three weeks after christmas on an on-call basis, please check with our office to check the pick up schedule and sign up for it. There will be a $8.00 trip charge for this service. back to top
Remember, once again, you absolutely cannot mix your regular garbage with any yard waste materials. If it has been mixed, we cannot pick any of it up until it has been separated. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
